Bock beers are strong beers made through the bottom fermentation
method. Bock beers were originally prepared either in autumn for
Christmas or in winter to celebrate next springtime. Very strong
bock beers are called doppelbocks. Doppelbock beers were
originally made by monks, who wanted to prepare something
nourishing for the fast time.
Bock beers are much stronger than usual lagers. Their colour can
be either light (usually in spring) or dark (for Christmas). The
amount of malt used is higher than normal, and this is why the
alcohol content also becomes higher than in normal lagers. Bock
beers taste rich and strong, and there is often a good amount of
hops in them as well.
